Woodland Night Safari
led by Wild for Woods

Saturday 15 February 2020, 6.30pm to 8.30pm

Join Jon Tyler for a journey into the dark side of the woods. Explore the rides and pathways of Thornham’s woodland in the magic time between light and dark. Encounter owls, see the stars as they emerge and experience night magic. Please bring a torch but expect a journey mainly in the dark. Warm up with a hot drink at the Visitor Centre afterwards.

(Suffolk Walking Festival) Hedgerow forage and cream tea
led by Wild for Woods

Saturday 23 May 2020, 1pm to 4pm

Distance: 2 - 3 miles

Pace / fitness: slow / easy

Enjoy a gentle amble around Thornham Walks with local forager Jon Tyler looking at and picking some wild foods. Then sample scones, jams, jellies and infusions made from foraged items as we enjoy a cream tea on the wild side. The event can cater for vegetarians, wheat free and vegan, please state when booking.

Meet outside the cafe next to main car park.

(Suffolk Walking Festival) Trees, woods and people
led by Simon Hooton

Wednesday 27 May 2020, 10:30am to 12pm

Distance: 1 - 1.5 miles

A walk for families and users of all abilities exploring the woodland and trees along the surfaced footpath running through the heart of the Thornham Estate. Considering their origins and how trees have been and continue to be used in our lives. Through stories we will also consider trees as part of culture and myth, imagining a different world.

Tickets £5, family of 4 for £15

No age restriction

(Suffolk Walking Festival) Camp fire, make and bake
led by Wild for Woods

Saturday 30 May 2020, 10.30am to 1pm

Distance: 2 miles

Pace / fitness: slow / easy

Get a taste of outdoor cooking, brush up on your whittling skills and make a bread twist damper and cook it over a fire in the woods. The event can cater for vegetarians, wheat free and vegan, please state when booking.

Meet outside the cafe next to main car park.

Thornham food forage and open fire cook

led by Wild for Woods

Saturday 5 September, 10.30am to 2pm

Come along for a morning of family wild food adventure. Search Thornham Walks for plants, nuts, berries and early autumn mushrooms. After foraging we will prepare, cook and enjoy seasonal wild food treats around the campfire. The event can cater for vegetarians, wheat free and vegan, please state when booking.

Family fungi fun

led by Wild for Woods

Wednesday 21 October, 10.30am to 12.30pm

Get ready for a fungtastic journey of activity and adventure! Discover the hidden world of magical mushrooms and terrific toadstools found around Thornham Walks.

Tickets £7 (accompanying adult free)

Age 7+ (no unaccompanied children)

Maximum group size: 24 (including accompanying adults)


Thornham Christmas crafts

led by Wild for Woods

Saturday 5 December, 10.30am to 12.30pm and 1.30pm to 3.30pm

Two sessions focused on making use of natural materials found around Thornham Walks. The morning session will start with a short walk to gather materials. We will then cover how to make a basic winter wreath with willow, dog wood or birch, using hedge foliage for decoration. The afternoon session will focus on creating willow star decorations and Christmas cards. Come along for one or two sessions. All materials and equipment are included in the price.
